Sailfish Bay Fishing Report-June 2008

June fishing has been excellent at Sailfish Bay. Our "off-season" is better then many other destinations prime time. Scroll through the report and you will see some excellent numbers. May - Oct is a wonderful "bend the rod" time with great sailfishing, plentiful dorado and tuna fishing.

June 6- Larry Carollo, Dale Wilhelm and Kemp Muhlbauer arrived at Sailfish Bay. They raised 6 sailfish on Maverick and released 4 conventional. They also caught 1 dorado.

June 7- The Carollo group raised 5 sailfish on Maverick and released 4 conventional.

June 8- Ed and Scott Andress, a father and son duo arrived at Sailfish Bay. They raised 5 sailfish on Maverick and released 2 conventional. They also caught 1 dorado and 1 yellowfin tuna.

June 9- Ed and Scott raised 7 sailfish on Sirena and released 4 conventional. Also catching 1 dorado.

June 10- Ed and Scott raised 11 sailfish on Sirena and released 5 conventional. They also caught 2 yellowfin tuna.

June 12- Sailfish Bay Lodge owner Scott Ruprecht and Karen Boschert raised 6 sailfish on Gypsy and released 1 on fly. They also caught 5 dorado and 6 yellowfin tuna only fishing 1/2 a day!

June 18- Sailfish Bay Lodge owner Bobby Walker, Rhonda Dixon and Kim Samuel raised 1 sailfish on Gypsy and released 1 conventional. They also caught 10 dorado - all 25 to 35 lbs!

June 19- Father and son teams Chris and Andrew Sawch, and Don and Donny O'Brien arrived at Sailfish Bay. They raised 19 sailfish on Gypsy and released 11 conventional all in just 3 hours of late afternoon of fishing!!

June 20- The Sawch/O'Brien group had another great day raising 26 sailfish on Gypsy and released 14 conventional.

June 21- The Sawch/O'Brien group raised 12 sailfish on Gypsy and released 9 conventional. They also caught 2 dorado.

June 22- Brad and Megan Humphrey raised 21 sailfish on Sirena and released 10 conventional. They also caught 12 dorado!

Sailfish Bay Fishing Report-May 2008

May 4 - Ken Rivadeneira arrived at Sailfish Bay to do a story for Taca Airlines In-Flight Magazine. Ken raised 40 sailfish on Gypsy and released 20 conventional. He also caught 2 dorado.

May 5 - Ken raised 3 sailfish on Gypsy and released 1 conventional. He also caught another 2 dorado.

May 8 - Brothers John and Bill Johnston arrived at Sailfish Bay. Fishing on Gypsy they raised 2 sailfish and had 0 releases.

May 9 - John and Bill raised 1 sailfish on Gypsy and released 1 on fly. They also caught 17 dorado.

May 10 - John and Bill raised 6 sailfish and released 0 on Sirena.

May 11 - John and Bill raised 5 sailfish on Gypsy and released 2 on fly.

May 12 - John and Bill raised 9 sailfish on Gypsy and released 2 on fly. They also caught two dorado - 25 and 35 lbs.

May 15 - David Gregory from Rod & Gun arrived at Sailfish Bay with buddies Tom Kowalski and Hank Stringer. Fishing on Gypsy they raised 30 sailfish and released 7 conventional. They also caught one 35 lb dorado at 10 AM that was later served for lunch.

May 17 - The Gregory Group raised 9 sailfish on Gypsy and released 1 on fly.

Sid & Web Haining arrived at Sailfish Bay. They raised 17 sailfish on Maverick and released 10 conventional. They also caught 12 dorado!

May 18 - Sid & Web raised 5 sailfish on Maverick and released 4 conventional.

Mike Robrahn, Stephen Chang, Edward Ruffner, and Jim Shively arrived for Guatemala sailfishing. They raised 5 sailfish on Sirena releasing 2 conventional and 1 on fly.

May 19 - Sid & Web raised 7 sailfish on Maverick and released 5 conventional. They also caught another 8 dorado.

The Robrahn group raised 9 sailfish on Sirena and released 4 conventional. They also caught 17 dorado on fly rods!

May 20 - The Robrahn group raised 15 sailfish on Sirena and released 4 conventional.

Mike Duda fished one day on Gypsy. He raised 18 saifish and released 6 conventional. Mike also caught 6 dorado.

May 21 - The Robrahn group raised 3 sailfish on Sirena releasing 2 conventional and 1 on fly. They also caught 7 yellowfin tuna and 8 more dorado.

May 22 - The Robrahn group raised 3 sailfish on Sirena and released 2. They also caught 6 yellowfin tuna and 15 dorado. Another mixed bag day.

May 23 - The Robrahn group raised 2 sailfish on Sirena and released 1. They also caught 6 dorado

Sailfish Bay Fishing Report-April 2008

April 1 - The Stringfellow group raised 7 sailfish on Ballena and released 4 conventional.

The Triesch group raised 14 sailfish on Maverick and released 5 conventional. They also released one 250 lb blue marlin.

The Bookout group raised 9 sailfish on Mariner and released 0 on fly.

The Solomon group raised 18 sailfish on Sirena and released 1 on fly.

April 2 - 5 - A much needed rest for our captains and mates. Thankfully, we had off days because the fishing was not very good.

April 6 - George Haskins from Orvis returned to Sailfish Bay with his wife Linda. They were also joined by Bruce Aikens, Scott Adams, David Dumeer, Billy Cohen, Spencer Bomar, John Bostwick, Chris Peyerk, Joe Ferro, Matt Smith and Dara Smith, Tom Kemp and Bill Kemp, Angelo Sullo and Bill Mogensen.

Fishing on Sirena they raised 67 sailfish and released 6 on fly.

Fishing on Mariner they raised 89 sailfish and released 7 on fly.

Fishing on Maverick they raised 68 sailfish and released 9 on fly!

Fishing on Mad Bavarian they raised 52 sailfish and released 7 on fly.

Fishing on Cayuco they raised 34 sailfish, releasing 5 on fly and 3 conventional.

April 7 - The Orvis group raised 16 sailfish on Mad Bavarian and released 2 on fly.

Fishing on Sirena they raised 18 sailfish and released 0 on fly.

Fishing on Mariner they raised 22 sailfish and released 3 on fly.

Fishing on Maverick they raised 18 sailfish and released 1 on fly.

Fishing on Ballena they raised 22 sailfish and released 1 on fly.

Fishing on Bora Bora they raised 14 sailfish and released 3 on fly.

April 8 - The Orvis group raised 20 sailfish on Maverick and released 3 on fly. They also raised one Blue Marlin.

Fishing on Mad Bavarian they raised 4 sailfish and released 2 on fly.

Fishing on Mariner they raised 8 sailfish and released 0.

Fishing on Sirena they raised 5 sailfish and released 3. They also raised a Blue Marlin.

Fishing on Bora Bora they raised 1 sailfish and released 2 dorado.

Fishing on Ballena they raised 12 sailfish and released 6.

April 9- The Orvis group raised 3 sailfish on Mariner and released 1 on fly.

Fishing on Maverick they raised 15 sailfish, releasing 2 on fly and 1 conventional. They also caught 4 dorado and 3 bonito.

Fishing on Sirena they raised 9 sailfish and released 1 on fly.

Fishing on Mad Bavarian they raised 8 sailfish and released 1 on fly.

Fishing on Ballena they raised 12 sailfish and released 4.

April 11 - Manny Varella and Bill Patrone returned to Sailfish Bay for their second visit. The group also included Matt Flick, Phil Smith, Rodger, Joe and Bruce Marler, Mike Johnson, Jon McHenry, Andy Braddy, Luis Gil, Dick Cote, Jeff Henwood, Carlos Lombana, Buck Fisher, Buz Alexander, Danny Gregory, and Glen Philips.

They cast to and hooked up all their fish on spinning gear.

Fishing aboard Maverick they raised 57 sailfish and released 10.

Fishing aboard Sirena they raised 44 sailfish and released 15.

Fishing aboard Gypsy (this is NOT a missprint...Gypsy) they raised 40 sailfish and released 20.

Fishing aboard Mariner they raised 21 sailfish and released 7.

April 12 - The Varella group raised 48 sailfish on Maverick and released 13. They also caught 6 dorado.

They raised 23 sailfish on Gypsy and released 12.

They raised 36 sailfish on Sirena and released 8.

They raised 31 sailfish on Mariner and released 10.

April 13 - Jimmy Clark, Jack Hare, Jeff Turner, Matt Wright, Chris Arnold, and Kelley Moore arrived at Sailfish Bay.

Fishing on Gypsy they raised 28 sailfish and released 14 conventional.

Fishing on Maverick they raised 23 sailfish and released 14 conventional.

April 14 - The Clark group raised 20 sailfish on Gypsy and released 5 conventional.

The Clark group raised 25 sailfish on Maverick and released 10 conventional.

The Finnish Invasion arrived at Sailfish Bay. We happily welcomed Pasi Laine, Juha Niemi, Pekka Sivonen, Jukka Halonen, and Mika Vainio to Guatemala. The main goal was sailfish on fly rods as we were shooting TV shows, a DVD series, and doing a few fishing articles for the Nordic market of Finland, Sweden, and Norway.

Fishing on Sirena they raised 15 sailfish releasing 2 on fly and 3 conventional.

April 15 - The Laine group raised 8 sailfish on Sirena and released 2 on fly rods. They were also rewarded with a 250 lb Blue marlin conventional!

April 16 - The Laine group raised 24 sailfish on Gypsy and released 3 on fly.

The Laine group raised 12 sailfish on Sirena, releasing 2 on fly and 3 conventional.

Bob & John arrived at Sailfish Bay. Fishing on Allure they raised 29 sailfish and released 22 conventional.

April 17 - The Laine group raised 33 sailfish on Sirena, releasing 5 on fly and 6 conventional.

The Laine group raised 15 sailfish on Gypsy and released 1 on fly.

We ended up with remarkable video and incredible pictures for the Fishing Shows, DVD, and fishing articles. They did a superb job.

Bob & John raised 32 sailfish on Allure and released 22 conventional.

April 18 - Bob & John raised 34 sailfish on Allure and released 20 conventional.

April 19 - Bob & John raised 34 sailfish and released 19 conventional. They released 83 sailfish in 4 days of fishing! Not bad.

April 21 - Max Steiner and Carl Hood arrived at Sailfish Bay for the 3rd year in a row. Fishing on Sirena they raised 34 sailfish and released 19 conventional. They also raised 1 Blue Marlin.

Also, arriving at Sailfish Bay for the 2nd time were Emery & Shelly Kertesz. Fishing on Gypsy they raised 30 sailfish and released 12 conventional. They also caught 1 Dorado.

April 22 - Max & Carl raised 20 sailfish on Sirena and released 12 conventional.

Emery & Shelly raised 18 sailfish on Gypsy and released 11 conventional.

April 23 - Max & Carl raised 29 sailfish on Sirena and released 14 conventional.

April 24 - Max & Carl raised 22 sailfish on Sirena and released 10 conventional. They also caught 2 dorado.

April 25 - From Austria, fly fishers Gunther Aman and Christian Wilhelmstotter arrived at Sailfish Bay. Fishing on Gypsy they raised 25 sailfish and released 7 on fly!

April 26 - Gunther and Christian raised 26 sailfish on Gypsy and released 2 on fly.

April 27 - Gunther and Christian raised 8 sailfish on Gypsy and released 1 fly fishing.
